Carole King’s “Way Over Yonder”

For many years I’ve thought this was an Afro-American Spiritual song. Until recently I checked and the credits say “Lyrics Carole King”. I’ve always been moved by this song because I could get behind the words even though I’d left the Christian religion behind. We all need optimism and hope for a better future in this life. Oh for more songs like this! And perhaps with clearer visions of the new society we all long for.

Here she is singing it with Abigail Harness – the singing is sublime imo!

Way Over Yonder

Way over yonder is a place that I know
Where I can find shelter from the hunger and cold
And the sweet tasting good life is so easily found
Way over yonder, that's where I'm bound
I know, when I get there, the first thing I'll see
Is the sun shining golden, shining right down on me
And trouble's gonna lose me, worry leave me behind
And I'll stand up proudly in true peace of mind
Way over yonder is a place I have seen
In a garden of wisdom from some long ago dream
mmmmm
mmmmm
Maybe tomorrow I'll find my way
To the land where the honey runs, runs in rivers each day
And the sweet tasting good life is so easily found
Way over yonder that's where I'm bound
Way over yonder that's where I'm bound
